About the Brigade
The 506th Bosnian Liberation Brigade was formed from fighters from Velika Kladuša who refused to join the separatist entity of Fikret Abdić. Its commander Nijaz Miljković was the first to say 'no' to Abdić's betrayal and crossed to free territory with about fifteen men. In July 1994 he formed the 506th Liberation Brigade which grew to 1,200 fighters. The brigade fought against AP Western Bosnia and in Operation Sana '95 where Miljković was seriously wounded. Their struggle was unique because they fought against people they knew — former neighbors and friends who sided with Abdić.
