Event Details
The Una-Sana Operational Group was formed on 13 August 1992, by order of the Supreme Command of the Army of RBiH dated 29 July 1992. Initially named the Una Operational Group, it was soon renamed to the Una-Sana Operational Group (USOG). Ramiz Dreković was appointed commander, while Ramiz Duraković served as his deputy and chief of staff. USOG united all infantry brigades of the Bihać Pocket Territorial Defense that remained loyal to the Government of RBiH — seven brigades in total: the 1st Bihać, 2nd Bihać (Muslim-Croat), 1st Cazin, 105th Bužim, 101st Muslim Krajina, 111th Bosanska Krupa, and 1st Velika Kladuša Infantry Brigades. These units held defense lines approximately 178 km long, completely surrounded by enemy VRS and SVK forces. Under the command of Ramiz Dreković, USOG coordinated the defense of the region and laid the foundations for the later formation of the 5th Corps. This group was key in organizing resistance against superior enemy forces and maintaining defense lines during the first months of the war. By order of the ARBiH Supreme Command No. 02-111-738/92 of 29 September 1992, the formation of the 5th Corps was planned, but due to the difficult situation on the ground, this decision was only implemented on 21 October 1992 — when all soldiers and officers of the USOG were incorporated into the newly formed corps.
