About the Brigade
The 505th Knightly Motorized Brigade, also known as the Buzim Brigade, was formed on 15 August 1992. Under the command of Brigadier Izet Nanić, it became the most elite brigade of the 5th Corps — President Alija Izetbegović personally stated that it was the most elite brigade of the ARBiH during the war. The brigade liberated about 300 km² of territory in a series of offensive operations: Lightning '93, Birch '94, Tiger '94 and Sana '95. Nanić was killed on 5 August 1995 at Ćorkovača during Operation Storm, and was posthumously promoted to Brigadier General and awarded the Order of Hero of the Liberation War. The brigade continued fighting under his deputy and participated in the liberation of Velika Kladuša.
