Operation Birch '94 was a defensive operation of the 5th Corps in the Buzim area. During this operation, the 505th Brigade successfully repelled attacks by the VRS and the Autonomous Province of Western Bosnia. During this operation, a T-55A tank "Vitez" (Knight) was captured near Buzim.

Background
In 1994, Buzim was under constant threat from the VRS. The 505th Viteška Motorized Brigade under Izet Nanić faced one of the heaviest offensives of the aggressor, but managed not only to defend the town but also to capture an enemy tank.
Course of the operation
Operation Birch (Breza) was a defensive action in which the 505th Viteška Motorized Brigade halted superior VRS forces. During the repulsion of the attack, brigade members succeeded in capturing a T-55A tank, later named “Vitez” (Knight) in honor of the brigade.
Outcome
Buzim was defended, and the captured T-55A “Vitez” became one of the rare examples of capturing an enemy tank in a defensive rather than offensive operation. The tank was later incorporated into the 5th Tank Company.
Significance
Breza ‘94 is a symbol of Buzim’s resistance. Capturing a tank in defensive combat is a rarity in war history and testifies to the bravery and skill of the 505th Brigade members.
