Course of the Operation

Operation Grmeč '94 was carried out in October 1994 with the aim of liberating Mount Grmeč and expanding the territory under 5th Corps control. During this operation, two T-55A tanks were captured at Grabež - "Labud" (Swan) and an unnamed one. These tanks were immediately included in the 5th Tank Company and used in further fighting.

Background

In October 1994, the 5th Corps of the ARBiH under Atif Dudaković launched an offensive aimed at liberating Mount Grmeč, a strategically important elevation in western Bosnia.

Course of the operation

In Operation Grmeč, the 501st and 502nd Brigades of the 5th Corps participated. After fierce fighting, Mount Grmeč was liberated, creating space for further offensive activities of the corps. During this, two T-55A tanks were captured, named “Labud” (Swan) and one that received no special name.

Outcome

About 250 square kilometers of territory were liberated, and the 5th Corps captured two T-55A tanks that were later used in the tank units. This was one of the most successful offensives of the corps in 1994.

Significance

Grmeč ‘94 opened the path to the liberation of the wider area of western Bosnia and showed the 5th Corps’ ability to conduct large offensive operations. The captured tanks significantly strengthened the corps’ armored forces.
